Sightseeing on rainy day
When you go to Biei, you want to go cycling on the patchwork hills and take pictures at the tourist spots that are Instagram-worthy! But when you come to Biei, it rains unexpectedly.... For those who want to do so, here we introduce a style of sightseeing in Biei that can be done even on a rainy day.
Leisurely tour of museums
Biei-cho has many photo galleries and museums.
Among them, “Takushinkan” exhibits many photographs by Shinzo Maeda, who made Biei-cho well known to many people.
Maeda was fascinated by the Western-style scenery and continued to take landscape photographs of the hill town of Biei-cho throughout his life.
Then, in the vast nature of the former Chiyoda Elementary School site in Takushin, Biei-cho, he built a house and a permanent photo exhibition space, which he named “Takushinkan”.
The row of white birch trees next to the building is now an outstanding tourist spot for Instagram.
